Seven Lakes High School Wrestling Coaching Staff

Head Coach Mike Demarchi

I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where I wrestled my prep career.  After graduation, I attended the University of Toledo to study Education.  In 1995, I moved to Houston to teach 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies.  In 1999, I transferred to Mayde Creek HS in Katy ISD where I had the opportunity to give back to the sport of wrestling which had given so much to me as a young person.  I served as Assistant Coach for two years and was then promoted to Head Coach where I served for 4 more years.  In 2005, I took on the challenge of starting the new program here at Seven Lakes HS and have been building ever since.  As a coach, I have amassed 496 dual wins, 54 District Champions, 186 Regional Qualifiers, 13 Regional Champions, 79 State Qualifiers, 28 State Placers, 4 State Champions, 3 Team District Team Championships, 1 Team Regional Championship, and been named District Coach of the Year 3 times.  I married my best friend, Kerri in 2000 and we were blessed with the birth of our son, Carter in 2005 and our daughter, Leah in 2008.  I love being here where I get the opportunity to work with our great student-athletes, parents, and SLHS staff.

Assistant Coach Jim Gumm

I grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois where I wrestled my prep career. I attended Eastern Illinois University and majored in English. In college I coached at Charleston HS, Bloom Trail HS & I held my first head coaching job reviving a dormant program and placed wrestlers at State and won the District Championship in our first season. The following year I moved to Houston to teach and coach in Klein ISD where I was given a football, the head track job, and a Texas History book. Based on our teams' success in football and track I was hired to be the Athletic Director at West Briar Middle School. I have been a featured speaker for HISD, coached in the NFL's player development youth and high school programs and coached Team Texas for four seasons.

At WBMS I was fortunate to have an overall record of 121 - 7 with 40 Individual State Champions along with 11 Team City Championships & 8 Dual Team State Championships (with no team finish lower than 2nd). Although I feel the greatest success I have had is the number of kids that were able to have a chance to find success on and off the mat. While not working with wrestling my wife Chelsea and I enjoy travelling, collecting and refinishing antiques and spending time with our two daughters, Emma & Lily (Badger). It is a pleasure to work with a staff and community that is focused on helping kids be great people.

Assistant Coach Andrew Arcuri

I started at Seven Lakes High School in the fall of 2017.  I have 24 years of teaching and coaching experience overall.  I am proud to coach Wrestling and Football and teach Geometry here.

I grew up in Long Island, New York.  I went to college at Syracuse University, where I played lacrosse.  I moved to Texas in 1995.  I've done most of my coaching in the Kingwood and Humble area.  During that time, I was a head wrestling coach, head boys’ lacrosse coach, and assistant coach.  I have coached at the collegiate level and internationally.  I’ve been fortunate to coach in the playoffs in every sport I’ve coached.  I was even an assistant principal for a couple of years.

I married my wife Julia in 1997.  She teaches third grade at Davidson Elementary.   We have 2 daughters Robin and Meredith who are grown and live in Austin and Spring.  And in our free time, we are trying to find the best restaurant(s) in Katy.  I am also a HUGE fan of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
