2018 Spartan Club Scholarship Guidelines

The Seven Lakes High School Athletic Booster Club is pleased to announce the 2018 Scholarship guidelines. The number of scholarships and the amount will be approved by the SLABC Board and as part of the recurring annual Spartan Club budget process. These scholarships will be divided equally between boy and girl athletes of Seven Lakes High School.

1. CRITERIA- (Provide evidence of the following)

  1. Application/acceptance into college

  2. Must have played a SLHS sport in Jr. or Sr. year (both are not necessary)

  3. List school extracurricular involvement

  4. Family required membership in Spartan Club Junior and Senior Year: prior to March 1, 2017  (Junior Year) and a member before March 1, 2018 (Senior Year).

    A student who transfers is subject to vote by the SLHSABC Board on a case-by-case basis)

  5. GPA 2.50 or higher


  1. Scholarship application submission to counselor’s office. (Deadline: April 23, 2018)

  2. Completed application form

  3. Copy of high school transcript

  4. Written essay from student, 300-500 words, relevant to the essay topic


Following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, the community spirit of Houston and the surrounding areas made national news. Although many local sports teams and sports figures raised the spirit of the community following the hurricane, the Houston Astros’ World Series victory and efforts of the J.J. Watt Foundation to raise funds may have had the most impact. In what way do you believe high school sports, and other levels of sports, contribute to the local community spirit, not only in times of need but everyday life?


  1. Selection committee will consist of a minimum of five individuals that are selected by the Executive Board. The SLHS principal and Athletic directors may participate, but will be non-voting members of this committee. Parents on the committee cannot have students being considered for a scholarship.

  2. Based on athletic participation, community involvement, academics, and essay content


  1. Post scholarship essay topic on the website at

  2. Select Scholarship Committee.

  3. Properly advertise scholarship availability through Seven Lakes ABC website and e-news.

  4. Receive all scholarship submissions by April 23, 2018. Submissions should be delivered to Seven

    Lakes High School’s counselor’s office.

  5. Review all scholarship submissions and make selection by May 4, 2018.

  6. Send a written award notification to each winning applicant.

  7. Present all scholarships at Seven Lakes High School’s Senior Awards night.
