2019 Spartan Club Scholarship Guidelines

The Seven Lakes High School Athletic Booster Club is pleased to announce the 2019 Scholarship guidelines. The number of scholarships and the amount will be approved by the SLABC Board and as part of the recurring annual Spartan Club budget process.  These scholarships will be divided equally between boy and girl athletes.

  1. CRITERIA- (Provide evidence of the following)
  1. Application/acceptance into college
  2. Must have played a SLHS sport in Jr. or Sr. year (both are not necessary)
  3. List school extracurricular involvement
  4. Family: required membership in Spartan Club Junior and Senior Year: prior to March 1, 2018 (Junior Year) and a member before March 1, 2019 (Senior Year) (Entry for a student who transfers is subject to vote by the SLABC Board on a case-by-case basis)
  5. GPA 2.50 or higher
  7. Scholarship application submission to counselor’s office. Deadline: April 5, 2019
  8. Completed application form
  9. Copy of high school transcript
  10. Written essay from student, 300-500 words, relevant to the essay topic


In recent news, many professional coaches and athletes are speaking out about sports specialization versus participation in more than one sport for young athletes. Houston Texan JJ Watt has shared his opinion on the debate, as have tennis great John McEnroe and soccer star Abby Wambach. Many health professionals also have weighed in on the controversy. In what ways do you believe that it is beneficial for student athletes to compete in multiple sports or to specialize in a single sport?


  1. Selection committee will consist of a minimum of five individuals that are selected by the Executive Board. Seven Lakes principal and Seven Lakes Campus Coordinator may participate, but will be non-voting members of this committee. Parents on the committee cannot have students being considered for a scholarship.
  2. Based on athletic participation, community involvement, academics, and essay content


  1. Post scholarship essay topic on the website at
  2. Select Scholarship Committee.
  3. Properly advertise scholarship availability through Seven Lakes ABC website and e-news.
  4. Receive all scholarship submissions by April 5, 2019. Submissions should be delivered to Seven Lakes High School’s counselor’s office.
  5. Review all scholarship submissions and make selection by May 1, 2019.
  6. Send a written award notification to each winning applicant.
  7. Present all scholarships at Seven Lakes High School’s Senior Awards night.
