The Spartan Swimming and Diving Teams concluded their Championship Season last weekend at the UIL State 6A Championships the way they began it at Districts 4 weeks ago, with many program highlights and accolades. Your Spartan Girls team improved from the previous season where they didn’t score and points to place 25th in the State of Texas this year, while the Boys moved up 24 spots from 2017 to finish the year in 10th place at the State Meet.
Your Girls team was led by Senior Danielle Hepler who placed 7th in the 200 IM and 12th in the 500 Freestyle, and Junior Beth McNeese who was the Consolation Finals Champion in the 200 Freestyle and 10th in the 500 Freestyle. Sophomore Summer Taylor finished 20th in the 1M Diving Event, and the team of Hepler, Freshmen Jessica Coakley and Kaitlyn Killinger, and McNeese finished 18th in the Girls 400 Freestyle Relay.
On the Boys side your Spartans were led to their 10th place finish by 2 State Bronze Medalists, Junior William Coakley in the 200 Freestyle and Senior Brayden Rudd in the 100 Breaststroke. Coakley also swam in the Championship Finals of the 500 Freestyle finishing 5th in the State in that event, and Brayden Rudd was 16th in the 200 IM. Junior Ethan Autry completed his season by finishing 10th in the 100 Butterfly and 15th in the 50 Freestyle, and Junior Seungjoon Ahn was 13th in the 100 Butterfly. 2 relay teams also swam on the Final Day of the season with the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Coakley, Ahn, Autry, and Rudd winning the Consolation Finals and finishing 9th and the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Ahn, Autry, Junior Jake Mitchell, and Sophomore Chase Cooke finishing 16th.
Your Spartans concluded their Record Breaking Championship Season in high fashion as they brought home multiple District and Regional Event Championships, State Medals, broke 6 school records, and had 6 swimmers qualify for possible All-American status.
