UPDATED TRYOUT INFORMATION FOR 17/18 SEASON

Due to Spartan Spectacular, the girls tryout will start on Wednesday, August 9 from 5-7 PM.  The boys tryout start date and time will remain the same.

May 25, 2017

All players interested in playing for the team must attend tryouts.  Tryouts will start on Tuesday, August 8th.  If you are unable to attend tryouts, please email Coach McIlvain at kevinjmcilvain@katyisd.org.  All players need to prepare to tryout every day.  Players will need to turn in a copy of their birth certificate, and utility bill to Coach McIlvain, and a physical dated after May 1st to the trainer.  Summer hours for the trainer are June 16 - July 24 from 8:00 AM - Noon on Monday - Thursday.  Please make sure that the electronic participation forms have also been completed.  Here is the link to the physical and electronic forms:  https://katyisd.rankonesport.com/Main/Default2.aspx?Type=4

April 20, 2017

The Spartans are heading to the State Tournament on May 18 and 19 in College Station.  Lars Wiik and Sai Polepally lost in the Regional Finals to Cy Ranch 6-3,7-5 and had to play the extra playback match in order to advance.  The duo won their playback match 6-2,6-4 over Houston Lamar to qualify for State. 

Allen Chen and Sabrina Barboza lost a tough 3 set match in the Regional Semifinals to Clear Brook to knock them out of a chance to make it to State.  Allen and Sabrina defeated Clear Creek 6-4,6-4 to place 3rd in the Region.

Kathryn Sturgis and Isabella Wiik advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals of girls doubles and Divija Nadella reached the quarterfinals of girls singles.

April 7, 2017

The tennis team picked up where they left off from the fall by dominated the Spring Individual District Tournament.  Seven Lakes won 4 out of 5 draws and will send 9 players to the Regional Tournament in Deer Park on April 18 & 19.

The tennis team finished 3rd in the State!  The Spartans’ run at State finished with a 10-4 loss in the State Semifinals to eventual State Champion Plano West last week.  The team claimed wins from the line 1 doubles team of Allen Chen/Sai Polepally, line 2 doubles team Lars Wiik/Mohit Padhye, mixed doubles team Kyle Brice/Reshmi Sen, and Sai Polepally at line 3 boys singles.  The team finishes the year at 17-5 and was led by Seniors  Sabrina Barboza, Kyle Brice, Laura Bermudez, Allen Chen, Shreya Gupta, Eric Ji, Ashika Kumar, Maria Perez, Reshmi Sen, Sam Seth, Lars Wiik, and Jun Yi.  Congratulations on a historic season Spartan Tennis!

October 28, 2016

Seven Lakes has advanced to the State Tournament for the 1st time in school history.  The team won the Regional Tournament with a 10-7 win over Cy Ranch.  Freshman Kathryn Sturgis won the clinching 10th match with a backhand volley winner.

The Spartans won 6 out of 7 super tie-breakers as Senior Allen Chen, Junior Sai Polepally, and Kathryn Sturgis all won 2 matches.  Senior Eric Ji and Junior Luis Navarro provided doubles wins, and Junior Sanjana Surapaneni, Junior Hannah Glasgow, and Sophomore Divija Nadella picked up wins in girls doubles.  Senior Kyle Brice, Senior Sabrina Barboza and Sophomore Isabella Wiik picked up wins in singles.

The State Tournament will start on Wednesday at 3:00 at Texas A&M University.

October 12, 2016

Seven Lakes won the District Championship for the 2nd year in a row with a 19-0 win over Morton Ranch on Tuesday.  The Spartans dominated the district this year, only dropping 4 matches in 6 district contests.

The Spartans also won a big area matchup on Tuesday over Clements.  The team defeated the #7 team in the state 12-5.  Seven Lakes jumped out to a commanding 6-1 lead after doubles by sweeping all the boys matches, line 2 and 3 girls, and mixed doubles.

The Spartans will host the Area Playoffs next week.  Seven Lakes will play Kempner in the 1st round on Tuesday at 3:30 PM.

September 27, 2016

The Spartans traveled to Cinco Ranch on Tuesday and dominated the match, winning 19-0.  The team improves to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in district.  The Spartans only dropped 1 set out of 39 in the win.

Next Tuesday, the team will play two matches away matches at Mayde Creek and against #1 ranked Memorial at 3:00.

September 18, 2016

Seven Lakes hosted #14 The Woodlands and #21 Klein over the weekend.  The Woodlands took down the Spartans 12-4 in the morning match, but the Spartans fought back in the brutal afternoon heat to beat Klein 15-4.

Seven Lakes was a little short handed in the morning without their #3 and #6 boy, and #1 girl.  The Spartans fell behind 6-1 after doubles, losing 2 super tiebreakers 10-8.

The team will host Taylor on Tuesday to continue district play.

August 26, 2016

Seven Lakes fell to 1-2 on the year with a 10-9 loss to Round Rock Westwood and a 12-7 loss to Regional rival Cy Ranch.  The Spartans traveled to Plano for a tournament but were only able to get an opening round victory over Plano East 12-0 before the tournament was rained out.

Seven Lakes will travel to Tompkins next Tuesday to open district play.

Allen Chen's and Sai Polepally's season came to an end on Monday in the State Quarterfinals against McAllen Memorial.  The duo started really slowly, going down 4-0 to start the match.  They eventually settled in and rallied before dropping the 1st set 6-4.

The two teams battled back in forth in the 2nd set before the Spartans eventually won a second set tiebreaker.

In the 3rd set, Allen and Sai were broken early and went down 5-2.  Just like at regionals, a few weeks before, the team broke serve and was serving at 4-5 to even the match.  McAllen Memorial came up with several big shots and broke Allen to win the match 6-4.

April 21, 2016

The tennis team spent about 30 hours last Wednesday and Thursday riding the bus, watching it rain, drying courts, and finally playing in the Regional Tournament at Deer Park.  When  it was all over,  Junior Allen Chen and Sophomore Sai Polepally qualified for the state tournament by defeating the previously undefeated and #1 seed from Memorial in the semifinals 6-2,6-7,7-5.  Memorial had been so dominant, that they hadn’t even dropped a single set all year.  In the final against Taylor, the boys had several chances but couldn’t put the match away losing 7-6,1-6,7-6.

                Junior Lars Wiik and Freshman Mitali Khoje also had great tournaments by placing 3rd in their singles draws.  Lars placed 3rd in boys singles for the 2nd straight year.  He lost to Memorial in the semifinals and defeated Clear Creek in the 3rd place match 6-2,7-5.  Mitali lost to Pearland Dawson in the semifinals and rebounded to be Memorial for 3rd with a score of 4-6,6-0,6-3.

                Other results: Sanjana Surapaneni/Sabrina Barboza – Quarterfinals Girls Doubles, Kyle Brice/Brynn Wreford – Quarterfinals Mixed Doubles, and Anuj Khoje/Davija Nadella – Mixed Doubles Regional Qualifiers for a great season.  The state tournament in May 16th and 17th in College Station.

 

10 SPARTANS ADVANCE TO THE REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

The Spartans won 3 out of 5 District Championships and placed 2nd in 3 more draws on Thursday at the Seven Lakes courts.  10 Spartans will be advancing to the Regional Tournament in Deer Park on April 19 and 20.

April 6th, 2016

The Spartans dominated the opening day of the 19-6A District Tournament hosted at Seven Lakes.  All 10 entries reached the semi-finals with 6 playing for a District Championship.

Lars Wiik will play Tompkins in the final of boys singles; Allen Chen/Sai Polepally will face Katy Taylor in boys doubles; Mitali Khoje is in the finals of girls singles against Tompkins;  Sanjana Surapaneni/Sabrina Barboza play Cinco Ranch in girls doubles; and Kyle Brice/Brynn Wreford will play teammates Anuj Khoje/Divija Nadella for the championship in mixed doubles.

All play begins at 3:00 PM at the Seven Lakes courts.

Sanjana Surapaneni and Sabrina Barboza advanced to the finals of the Ft. Bend Varsity Tournament over the weekend.  In the final, they fell  #1 seed Clements 6-1,6-4.

Amitesh Yeleswarapu and Cristian Drake also reached the finals in "B" boys doubles.  The duo lost to Clear Brook in a tough 3rd set tie-breaker

February 13, 2016

Ashika Kumar picked up her 1st medal of the year with a championship in "B" girls singles on Friday at the College Park Varsity Tournament.  Ashika won the tournament with a 6-4,6-0 victory over Klein.

Allen Chen continued his great start to the spring with a 2nd place finish in "A" boys singles.  Allen again played College Park in the final, but this time came up a little short 7-5,7-6.

The Spartans will be in action again this week in the Fort Bend Varsity Tournament.

February 8, 2016

Junior Allen Chen won the "A" boys singles draw on Friday with a 6-4,6-3 victory of College Park.

Senior Anuj Khoje and Freshman Mitali Khoje won the "A" mixed doubles draw with a 7-5,7-5 score, also defeating College Park in the Final.

The team will look to continue its great start to the season this Friday at the College Park Varsity Tournament.

October 31, 2015

The Spartan's season ended on Friday in the Regional Semi-finals with a 10-7 loss to Cy Ranch.  Seven Lakes led 4-3 after the completion of doubles a big come from behind at line 2 doubles from Lars Wiik and Pato Alatorre.  The teams combined to play seven 3rd set super tie-breakers, with the Mustangs winning 4 to provide the difference in the match.

The tennis team finishes the season with a 15-6 record and top 20 ranking in the state.

September 29, 2015

Seven Lakes took control of the district on Tuesday with a 12-7 victory over Cinco Ranch.  The Spartans took a 4-3 lead in doubles with 2 victories coming from line 2 and 3 boys doubles.  The girls won line 1 doubles with the 4th point coming from mixed doubles.

The boys swept all 6 singles matches, and the girls added 2 more victories at line 1 and 3 singles.  The team improves to 11-4 and 4-0 in district.  The Spartans will look to wrap up the district championship the next two weeks with matches at Mayde Creek and at home against Morton Ranch.

September 20, 2015

Seven Lakes played 3 matches last week and picked up 3 more convincing wins.  In district action, the Spartans beat Katy 18-1.  In non district play, Seven Lakes beat the #3 ranked team in 5A 16-3, and then hosted College Park on Friday and came away with a 14-5 victory.

The Spartan men will host Strake Jesuit on Tuesday and the team will host the Spartans from Stratford on Friday.

 

September 13, 2015

Seven Lakes traveled to Klein and Cy Ranch this weekend and split their duel matches.  The Spartans defeated Klein 13-4 in the morning session behind strong singles performances by the boys sweeping all 6 lines.  The girls contributed with 3 singles wins and claimed 2 out of 3 doubles lines.

In the afternoon match, Cy Ranch came out firing in doubles and quickly took a 6-1 lead.  The Spartans again battled back in singles and closed the gap to 9-6, before Cy Ranch claimed the final two wins for an 11-6 victory.

Seven Lakes will split their squad on Tuesday as one team will host A&M Consolidated and the other team will travel to Katy for a district match.

August 9, 2015

Seven Lakes defeated Tompkins 14-5 on Tuesday for their 5th straight win of the season.  The Spartans showed their depth with 10 varsity reserves getting a match.

Sophomores Luis Navarro, Mohit Padhye, and Ho Jun Chae each won 2 matches to lead the team to victory.

The team improves to 1-0 in district and 5-3 overall.  Seven Lakes will host Katy Taylor next Tuesday.
